Secret Mission for Zero-X! – A Gerry Anderson A21 News Report

by A21 Reporter Andy Clems

The brave crew of the Zero-X are preparing to undertake a mysterious mission on the direct orders of the World President.

Although details are sparse at present, it is understood that the assignment requires the Zero-X to be launched within the next 48 hours and the duration of the flight is thought to be around 10 weeks.

Mission Commander Captain Paul Travers stated, “We’re no strangers to operating in conditions of air-tight security, but every so often a mission comes along that goes one step further. I’m afraid I can’t elaborate on any specifics, as I don’t have any at the present time. Believe me, the first time I’ll really be put in the picture is when I open my sealed orders right after achieving orbit sometime in the next two days.”

Space Captain Greg Martin explained, “Some of our greatest adventures have started without knowing what we’re really getting into. Will this be another one for the history books? Who knows? As Paul says, none of us have got the full story as of this moment. I kind of like it that way, the not knowing. As usual, Paul will be in overall charge of the mission and I’ll be commanding the Zero-X during the flight to our destination.”

Joining Travers and Martin is Space Navigator Brad Newman. When asked for his thoughts on being kept in the dark about the exact nature of the mission he replied, “It’s how they operate sometimes, and you don’t question the World President’s direct orders. I imagine Paul and Greg will be taking the MEV on an excursion when we arrive. There’d be little point in sending Zero-X if it was going to be a routine space flight or if they expected serious opposition. One of the XL fleet could handle something like that. This is definitely something different and whatever it turns out to be, I’ll be remaining in control of the main ship when Paul and Greg depart.”

Most Zero-X missions include at least one scientific specialist, but no details have been confirmed. It is possible that the Zero X will launch with a crew of three, something that hasn’t been attempted since the ill-fated second mission to Mars in 2068.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
